About Us

The Aaron Jurek Memorial Fund (AJMF) was created in 2010 by John and Jean Jurek in memory of their son Aaron who lost his battle with undiagnosed depression in November 2009.

AJMF raises money for two purposes:

  • Annually award college scholarships to Blaine High School seniors who have demonstrated community service.
  • Raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to participate in their national Out of the Darkness Overnight walks.

Past Events:

2010

In May 2010 the Jurek family and friends hosted a benefit at the Blaine VFW to raise money for the AJMF and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). With the help of family, friends and total strangers we raised enough money to send John, Jean, Sara and Rianna Jurek, Glenda and Tanner Jurek, and Tanya, Kirsten and Kyle Goodroad to Boston, MA to participate in the Out of the Darkness walk in June 2010. Each adult walker needed to raise $1,000 to walk and each student $750.

2011

On June 4th, 2011 we held a 5 mile walk at Lions Park in our hometown of Coon Rapids, MN on the same day as the national Out of the Darkness Overnight walk held in New York City.  This was a great way to have all our family, friends, and supporters join us in this mission.
